Half Human and the retro new wave-esque proto punk iteration of "Seeing" creates stress points and sparks.

"I want to see if you’re seeing / I wonder if you’re looking out there / Shapes and colors spinning / Bringing the light to the tunnel night..."

The retro new wave-esque proto punk iteration of "Seeing" by Brooklyn's experimental rock trio Half Human feels like three different sized and oblique gears spinning, engaging with each other, creating stress points and sparks but turning just the same. Like an amalgam of iconic bands like Devo, Gang of Four and early Police each gear is screaming, pounding, moshing against each other. I am appreciating, eating up the wide eyed vocal countenance and the words that are tumbling out of their mouths.

"We need new blood
New tourniquet
We could become the turn of the key
We don’t believe in what we’ve said
The sky is dark

Are you seeing?

I wonder if you’re looking out there
Shapes and colors spinning
Bringing the light to the tunnel night"

"Seeing", from the band's third full length “Shape Language”, that just dropped in August, stirs the abstract punk pool that has never died out completely. The need to get back to raw, progressive sounds is growing as the formulaic pop molds sounding all the same are starting to crack.

“a really fun tension between the frenetic bass/kick locked-in post-punk groove sections and the slower, warped tape Mission of Burma abstract world.”

-Amar Lal (Big Ups, Macro Sound)

“There’s a passing resemblance to bands like FACS, Preoccupations, Liars, and maybe a touch of Black Eyes, those rooted in post-punk that aren’t afraid to embrace their experimental and electronic side. Half Human maneuver freely throughout their second full length, opting to expand song structures and push beyond the framework when least expected. They break from minimalist repetition to swarm in abstract sound, their songs peeled between razor sharp focus and improvisational shifts."

-Dan Goldin (Post-Trash, Exploding In Sound)

Half Human is a three piece experimental rock trio from Brooklyn. They combine both dark and frenetic textures with creative song structures and sound collage.

The Brooklyn experimental-rock trio returns on August 9th with their third full length, “Shape Language”. Over the course of 10 crisp tracks the band exercises their knack for crackling off-kilter grooves and unpredictable melodies. The two singles “Seeing” and “Mineral Thinking” get right to the point with clear, inviting hooks, while in the context of the full album, the edges blur as the band’s wider interests in improvisation, tape-loops and sonic exploration fill the seams.

Shape Language has been played on WFMU 91.1 FM, KALX 90.7 FM ,WLUW 88.7 FM, WCSB 89.3 FM, Shady Pines Radio, WAYO 104.3 FM, 94.9 CHRW (UK), 6 Towns Radio (UK), Slack City DAB (UK), North Manchester 106.6 (UK), Tuff City Radio 90.1 FM (Canada), Radio Antenna 1 FM 101.3 (Italy), Radio Lantau (Hong Kong) KFUEL FM (France), Kool Strings 48FM (Belgium), and XRaydio 1 (Bulgaria).
