The broken fairy tale sway and captivating croon of "Til' You Don't" by Chicago singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer Jaewon, wraps around me as I enjoy my bittersweet coffee this morning. The "entirely self recorded song about international infidelity and heartbreak" starts out easy and sparse in an almost 60's French pop way (kudos to the organ keys and Jaewon's sultry vocal countenance) but when the chorus hits it becomes a stirring romance waltz dipping into a lush pastiche of jazz, indie pop, tropical punk all smushed together into a dreamy 'song and dance' distillation featuring a mournful trumpet.
The result is beautifully produced and (to me) feels like a 70's indie movie about two people who love / lust for each other but simply can't avoid hurting each other as well.
Awwwwww. That is some goood coffee.
