The wistful, earthy folk indie rock glow of "Green Light" by Hackney, London bedroom producer / songwriter Boy Ferguson, draws you in with twangy porch blues folk come ons. The flavor is so engaging, evocatively moving and dreamy with vast acoustic folk guitar, sparse piano, western noir guitars, big bass / shuffling drum beat, a telling / thoroughly hooky non lexical backing vocal refrain and BF's beautifully soulful vocal countenance. AS you are lulled into submission, the song shifts, steps on the proverbial gas pedal feeling more like a runaway Americana pop rock diorama, only to come back down to earth, rich dark folk storytelling soil.

The tonal change in scenery was jarring the first time I experienced it but not since, it works as a yin yangian artful technique, making the quiet feel more so and the explosive feel bigger, more dramatic. Besides the vast, beautiful storytelling I can't help but think that Boy Ferguson's vocal personna might be one of his most powerful weapons.
