David Sail and the galloping leather bound Gothic folk rock decay of "Desert Moon"

"I was walking free under the desert moon / I was walking free under the desert moon / The moonlight strikes my dying flesh / The moonlight strikes my dying flesh..."

The galloping leather bound Gothic folk rock decay of "Desert Moon" by Costa Rica bred, Northern California based singer songwriter David Sail, feels darkly drawn somewhere between the murderous depths of a Nick Cave-ian emotional distopia to the dream theatrical romantic darkness of :of the wand & the moon:, at least based on this one song (and off the top of my frazzled head).

The important thing to me is that his sound and storytelling draws me in. The sparse sound here and Sail's vocal countenance, at times hollow and at times as deeply packed as a Texan ground core sample, feels dramatic and artful. The production also works perfectly, the orchestrations of sound are not heavy handed, the vibratonic hollow body guitar moods are squarely on point. There is blood in these sonic hills.

"Desert Moon" exists on David Sail's 2025 debut EP, "No Mind Fire".

LINER NOTES:

[I’ve been writing and singing songs since I was in high school in Northern California. I like many styles of music, but my songs are mainly influenced by rock, blues and folk artists. After two years in college, I decided to take some time off to focus on songwriting and recording. In February 2025, I released my first EP, No Mind Fire, which I recorded in Costa Rica, where I grew up. My goal is to create music that I’m proud of and that other people enjoy.]
