Placement and the squealing alt post punk dissonance of "More A Curse"

"wintery warmth / dreaming of what comes / in due course / when you're west / and I'm north / let's go for what it's worth..."  - photo by Kathryn Harvy

The squealing alt post punk dissonance of "More A Curse", by Kaurna Land (Adelaide, Australia) based noise rock / post punk outfit Placement, feels darkly obtuse and wickedly magnetic. Sonically, rich and adventurously drawn, I absolutely love Kim Roberts' bass line distortive shapes that have bottom, yes of course, but have a potent mid-range as well. Giuseppe Caporaso's shuffling in the pocket, firmly anchoring drums somehow feel wonderfully laid back amidst all the bad ass mayhemic tones. Guitarist Malia Wearn's vocal countenance, acerbically droll and haunting at the same time feels perfectly tilted. The guitar attacks between Wearn and Alex Dearman , two distinct guitar counter positioned against each other are like massively wailing puzzle pieces that don't quite interlock easily so are hammered together. Throw some of Stuart Patterson's blistered torture saxophone spitting out askew melodies to add even more facets, more sharp edges and the dystopian cuts (full of healing sauces and ultimate survivorship against evil governmental men in suits) feels complete.

"More A Curse" is the second single off of Placement's album "Insect" due to drop May 1st, 2025.

LINER NOTES:

[This is the second single off of our album and it feels to me like taking the next step into the slightly dystopian world the album inhabits, really just the reality the album was born in - historic events colliding and altering the forces of our existences. Post sickness and staggering on, plaintively human, beset and besieged on all sides by politics, policies, wars, dissidence, disaster, scorched earth, pestilence, whatever is left of the plagues and the many curses of our current existence.]

So now I will dream of a future tour with Placement and Tropical Fuck Storm. They can take turns opening up for each other. Yes, I put that out into the universe.

Post-punk/noise-rock from Kaurna Land (Adelaide, Australia).

Through a juxtaposition of experimental feedback, dissonance, rich vocal harmonies and spoken word, Placement deliver a ferocious and often partially improvised live show, influenced by performance art.
