The throttling post punk noir / dark romance punches of "Cycles", by Hamburg Germany's four piece alt rockers Joy Forever, runs right out of the box, a masterful full burner that, at one point, erupts into a full fledged firestorm. I am loving the sound that feels steeped in not only a sense of sonic nostalgia but of every iteration of rich eras from before. AND maybe that through line feels like a direct lineage from iconic movers (particularly with booming bass thumps / and airy jagged rhythms from icons like Joy Division or Bauhaus to modern subversive provocateurs like Fontaines D.C. or Protomartyr (and more). Joy Forever (to my ears) is not fell on feargach punk but insert their own brand of the kind of post punk that feels dramatic and dreamy at the same time. Not softened in any way but not afraid to scowl while showing some vulnerabilities.

The sound here with guitarist Mikolas Rendl's kind of post punk / new wave vocal drawl and a rich open sound relying on anchoring bass / drums dance and oftentimes guitar notes that hang in the air as opposed to power chords grabs you by the collar and drags you into a mayhemic mosh pit.

I like this and look forward to hearing more.
