Samt Martin and the super charged indie rock / post punk ascensions of "Golden Days"

"Dicht an dicht gebaut // Standen hier einmal // Vor langer Zeit // Schlösser aus Beton und Stahl"

The super charged indie rock / post punk ascensions of "Golden Days", by Berlin outfit Samt Martin, is what I needed this morning as America has ratcheted down our hold on democracy once again. I am loving the rich sonics here, the guitar heaviness, truly active bass action and such solid drum work that (for me) seems to encompass the alt rock / garage rock expressiveness that encompasses mid to late 80's indie, 90's post grunge rock movements and the 2000's iterations of progressive indie rock. I am feeling connections to bands like Husker Du, Yuck (circa Daniel Blumberg), The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Pity Sex (or thereabouts). As someone who doesn't speak German, I appreciate the bits of lyrics in English to kind of draw me in even more. Still I couldn't help but toss the German lyrics in Google Translate. Hope GT is somewhat accurate. By the way, loving Sam Martin's vocal countenance here poised in vulnerability and hopeful exuberance. I do feel like "Golden Days" are to come if we all fight the good fight in any way we can.

LYRICS

 "Golden Days"

Dicht an dicht gebaut
Standen hier einmal
Vor langer Zeit
Schlösser aus Beton und Stahl

Was davon noch bleibt
Tear down these walls

Das Gefühl ist echt
Doch die Nostalgie ist falsch

Licht zerreißt den Staub
Der alte Schutt wird warm
Dark days are over
Golden days to come

Zwischen Glas und Laub
Unter dem Asbest
Liegt der Hund begraben
Und der ganze Rest

For the common good
Gebt alles zurück

Das Gefühl ist echt
Doch die Nostalgie ist falsch

Licht zerreißt den Staub
Dem kalten Hund wird warm
Dog days are over
Golden days to come

Eingeschlossen wie Fossile
Im Harz der Bäume auf Ruinen (x2)

Wärmer, wärmer, immer wärmer
Schon ganz nah dran
Dark days are over
Golden days to come

Wärmer, wärmer, immer wärmer
Beinah verbrannt
Dark days are over
Golden days to come

Google Translated:

Built close together
Stood here once
A long time ago
Castles made of concrete and steel
What's left of it
Tear down these walls
The feeling is real
But the nostalgia is wrong

Light tears apart the dust
The old rubble is getting warm
Dark days are over
Golden days to come
Between glass and leaves
Under the asbestos
The dog is buried
And all the rest
For the common good
Give everything back
The feeling is real
But the nostalgia is wrong

Light tears apart the dust
The cold dog gets warm
Dog days are over
Golden days to come
Trapped like fossils
In the resin of the trees on ruins (x2)
Warmer, warmer, always warmer
Already very close
Dark days are over
Golden days to come
Warmer, warmer, always warmer
Almost burned
Dark days are over
Golden days to come

Google Translation below:

Somehow familiar, but completely different - androids, songbirds and ghosts greet you from layers of dreamy guitars and driving rhythms. Sam Martin sings about everyday desires and letting go, about new beginnings and living in the moment. Because everything is the same as always as long as it changes.
