"Another night / Wrapped in sheets / And the heat of holding you..."
The bloodlet intimacies and sonic ferality of "Avoidance" by twins, the lowercase moniker of South East London based musician, tattooist and visual artist Loz KeyStone, is rich in it's sparse sonic nature and emotional pull. The textured acoustic guitar, floating bass, falling lead guitar harmonics / tones and drones of other sounds against KeyStone's vocal countenance, passionate and forlorn, strike me in a wide spatial way, a 360 way, casting imagery like a fully formed indie film. Besides KeyStones evocative vocal qualities, the way he taps into the emotional patina on his words, very poetic words is everything and those lyrics, that dip into both curious expressions and total in your face declarations is wonderful.
An aspect of the lyrical poetry is it's ability to make you want to read in between the lines. For example, the poetic personification and metaphor in the passage "The light sings on you / And I'm not here / I'm the air that it sings through" is curiously beautiful as it shines like some mystery in the night sky, one of those lines that makes your brain twitch but in a good way. These kinds of lyrical differences make me smile as well.
These LINER NOTES make me smile too:
["Written and recorded in a caravan in the West Country, UK. It's the opening track off the full album called Caravan that I released 3 months ago"]
Lyrics:
Wrapped in sheets
And the heat of holding you
Dream
So quiet
The light sings on you
And I'm not here
I'm the air that it sings through
Then suddenly, there's a closing
And it takes me
Like a second will in the room
I'll be there soon
And I don't know how to love you
And I don't know how to love you
I'm not near myself - untrue
And what it means to be real, leaves
Coz suddenly there's a closing
And it take me
Something dies before it blooms
A crypt of feelings that I need to move
Cryptic feelings for you
In the end, "Avoidance", feels like the beginning of an impactful discovery.
