"I am now freedom / I feel no pain / a joint with ego..."
The raw post grungy slowcore carnival mirror of "Joint with Ego", by Los Angeles quartet Bondo, and from their current 6 track extended length "Tascam C-Sises Remastered", wraps around you like a dense sonic fog, beautifully constructed out of melancholy picked guitar lines, a shuffling drum beat, plucky bass mid tone heaviness and an ambient sensations hovering. There are also flutters of electronics, transmissions maybe from an effects peddle and Nikolas Escudero's shoegaze vocal countenance, hushed and plaintive. Little words are uttered but the way the melodies cut across the dark progression is emotionally drawn.
"I am now freedom /// I feel no pain //// a joint with ego ///// I light the flame still"
I really love the mood that is created, the tempo subtly shifting from a gripping pace but tightening up against fluid striking downbeats and bending guitar lines. There is a lot of evocative movement happening in tight artful quarters.
I have not dipped into "Tascam C-Sises Remastered" all together, but I plan on it.

Los Angeles quartet Bondo write, perform and record their type of post-rock live. Limiting their tonal effects to overdrive, distortion, and delay, their mostly instrumental music is a break from typical rock methods and expands into subtleties and dynamics. This is an archetypal example of "a band". The work is a product of four individual consciences shaped into one cohesive whole.
Bondo's 2nd album, Harmonica, was recorded live to tape while drummer Cook Lee-Chobanian had a torn ACL from playing basketball at LA Fitness. The band did not want to delay as they were in a creative stride as a performing outfit. The outcome is Harmonica, 11 songs with an expansive range. Simultaneously both experimental and standard, there are some more traditional songs with verses and choruses, however, the dynamic instrumental methodology Bondo has honed over the years is the grounding force of the record.
