Loser Demon and the massively scuffed up punk firestorm of "Reliance"

"I need results of the experiment  // covered the entry fee but still feels like I'm paying  //  brought down to earth theoretically  //  by an unproven force weighing on me ceaselessly..."

The massively scuffed up punk firestorm of "Reliance", by Riverside California's Loser Demon, sounds so fucking big, sonically, emotionally and even historically (in my mind). I say this emphatically because of the vast, breadth and scope genre wise. Within the power stance of this track I feel that wonderful kind of rockabilly punk cadence colliding with a kind of 80's new wave-esque rock sound (anyone think of INXS?), colliding further with late 80's arena indie rebel rock (anyone feel hints of The Edge if he was a punker?) and ultimately 90's power punk in the vein of Oblivians / NOFX, Archers of Loaf. All that just covers the glorious musical spread here.

In terms of the vocal performance, in a past review of Loser Demon I wrote:

"...bassist Keith's vocal countenance feels like a vulnerable cross cut of cooly droll and raw intensive American punk like an amalgam of Stephen Malkmus and Eric Bachmann (or thereabouts)"

AND I might add hints of Justin Warfield from She Wants Revenge.

I am really loving the artful vocal performance on this track as well as the poetic lyrical storytelling. I appreciate the way Keith not only utters the poetry but how I can feel his brain and heart feeling the words and their chained together meaning through his wailing bloodletting.

"I've never felt the pressure running through my mind with so much violence
I just assumed everyone felt the beating pulse out of the violence
if there's a conversation we need it is buried by the silence
tomorrow's headlines are another reflection

terrifying
terrifying
tearing at me"

Badass and beautiful.

"Reliance" exists on Loser Demon's "EP2" which you can check out on their Bandcamp.
