Mo Troper and the 60's chamber pop meets 70's Nixon high of "When She Says My Name"

"There's always an inkling I get // She smiles at everyone yet // She suddenly means it // When she says // When she says my name // Maybe it's wishful thinking // Whenever my head starts sinking..."

The 60's chamber pop meets 70's Nixon high of "When She Says My Name" by Portland's power pop provocateur Mo Troper, his first track since his 2024 album "Svengali", sparkles with harpsichord-esque piano, rousing trumpet, oohs and ahhhh galore and ebullient vocals. Besides the big pop sound, there is also an exceptionally stunning lead guitar break that actually feels quite glam like an amalgam of The Turtles, The Lovin' Spoonful and Queen leaving you with endearingly sweet and artfully radical things to satiate you. It sounds at once magical like finding hallucinogenic found footage in your uncles attic.

As LINER NOTES reveal:

"When She Says My Name" was recorded at the legendary New Monkey Studio in Los Angeles, the space founded by Elliott Smith and features an all-star cast of collaborators, including Blue Broderick of Diners, Auguste Patino, and members of Father John Misty's band. So, again, how is that for magical and I pretty much adore the mysterious and mesmerizing lyrics too. They like the song itself in it's totality are a trip.

LYRICS

There's always an inkling I get
She smiles at everyone yet
She suddenly means it
When she says
When she says my name
Maybe it's wishful thinking
Whenever my head starts sinking
I find it suspended
When she says
When she says my name

When she says my name
It scares me half to death
When she says my name
I can barely catch my breath

When she says my name
There's more time for us to spend
When she says my name
I know it'll never end

The rest of my life's a landfill
Now I can never stand still
If I want her to mean it
When she says
When she says my name
Everyone's seen it
When she says
When she says my name

A lot has changed, but the music is constant.

Mo Troper is back with the indelibly haunting "When She Says My Name," his first new track since his 2024 album, Svengali. This song is the first off a double A-side single, available in October.

Recorded at the legendary New Monkey Studios in Los Angeles, the space founded by Elliott Smith, this track features an all-star cast of collaborators, including Blue Broderick of Diners, Auguste Patino, and members of Father John Misty's band. Listeners will find Troper taking a more hifi approach with this song that sounds like the perfect blend of Elephant 6 and Laurel Canyon.
