OSLO and the psychedelic grandeur / fractured lifelines of "Accidental Tourist" (Official Video)

"broken lifeline / sentimental pig / tomorrow is not so big..."

The psychedelic grandeur / fractured lifelines of "Accidental Tourist", by Oakland-based Alternative indie rock trio OSLO and featuring Adrian Young (No Doubt), manages to enthrall with a superb blend of grand rock classicalism, post punk dreaminess and post rock power. I mean, I thought of a diverse number of iconic bands while listening because the aesthetic here feels adjacent to artists across many decades. Artists like Pink Floyd, like Oasis, like the highly underrated The Fixx, like Psychedelic Furs, like Supergrass, just to name a few. There are periods and genre specific sounds that (to me) have a heavy rock sound but an air of sophistication as well and I feel this in spades on "Accidental Tourist". I think this has to do with the moodiness musically, big waves of melancholia and of wanderlust in existential ways. It is not only the big psychedelic sound and British rock tones but guitarist Mattia Borrani’s vocal countenance that draws you in immediately. His sort of post punk drawl, for lack of a better term, has a certain gravitas bathed in an emotional artfulness, that feels utterly natural and not the least put on wailing out evocative lyrical poetry.

"broken lifeline / sentimental pig / tomorrow / is not so big / you wake up / from your day / to find out / you're on your way / you're on your way / leave the lights on / accidental tourist / consequential days / keep happening / until you decide on / what you need / who your friends are / (decide on) what you need / who your friends are / (decide on) what you need / and who your friends are / (decide on) what you need / and who your friends are..."

This track features OSLO stalwarts / songwriting trio of the aforementioned Mattia Borrani on lead vocals, Kerry Wayne James on bass and Gabrial McNair on guitars and keys who famously was a touring member of No Doubt, and as stated earlier this track feature drummer Adrian Young (famously a core member of No Doubt). "Adrian joining us on the track gave us a chance to jam together, and the vibe was undeniable. From there, it was a simple ask; he was genuinely excited to bring his own flavor to the song,” added James.

LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):

[OSLO, known for their self-titled debut album in 2005, gained critical acclaim and caught the attention of Rolling Stone, Billboard, and the Los Angeles Times. The standout single, "Minute Gun," became a college and specialty radio favorite. Their second album, "The Rise and Fall of Love and Hate," featured the hit single "Slowdive," which received airplay on Sirius XMU and specialty radio, expanding their fan base. In addition to their full-length albums, OSLO released two EPs: "High Mountain Session Vol 1" (2011) and "The Morning After EP" (2016). These releases showcased the band's ability to create introspective and exhilarating music, providing a glimpse into their creative process and hinting at upcoming music. OSLO's evolution lies in their ability to blend introspection with energy, continuously pushing the boundaries of their sound.]
