"I paint flowers so they will not die" - Frida Kahlo
The brooding progressive magnifying glass burn and erupting metal firestorm of "Everything Here is Black and Blinding" by Sydney Australia instrumental post rock/metal band We Lost The Sea, is an emotional shape shifter, incremental nuances of impactful sonic drama that eventually boils over. To suggest that this composition is cinematic maybe the biggest understatement ever. What makes this art piece special is not only it's dark artfulness and it's emotional rhythmic impact but the fact that it feels less composed than just created out of whole psychic cloth, born like a pure multi-person improvisation, at least that is the feeling that overtook and overtakes me each time I listen. There is a supernatural aspect too, at least in my head, as this amazing instrumental track sounds different each and every time I listen.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
["Everything Here is Black and Blinding" is the second single from the new album, "A Single Flower". It combines dark electronic mood with classic post rock builds. This is technically We Lost The Sea's first official music video. It features single performer, Emma Dunstan, improvising dance and motion to the music, trying to outrun her own thoughts. This is a protest song and it is inspired by Frida Kahlo.]

We Lost The Sea are an instrumental post rock/metal band from Sydney Australia formed in 2007. In 2015 the band released what would become their most recognisable work with 'Departure Songs'. This was inspired by the catharsis of grief over the suicide of their singer and friend, Chris Torpy. One of their songs 'A Gallant Gentleman' has been featured on Netflix series by Ricky Gervais and during the Super Bowl on FOX sports. Since then the band turned into a fully instrumental outfit and has toured the world. They have released four albums and will release a new record in July 2025 titled 'A Single Flower'. Their music has been described as epic, cinematic and moving. The are touring North America in July and playing ArcTanGent in the UK in August 2025.
