Very Busy People and the nimbly psychedelic, slightly discordant beauty of "Sapphire"

"There's something wrong outside / Said the basement tune the other night / You should go / It's a long way to another soul..."

The nimbly psychedelic, slightly discordant beauty of "Sapphire", by Austin TX indie collective Very Busy People, is so easy to love and, after numerous listens, beckons me like an addictive bite of dark chocolate. Maybe it's the fluid guitar patterns that create this off kilter engine or maybe it is the counter-positioned running thumping bass lines or the shuffling drum beats or the layered keys droning and casting out flutters of bends / arpeggios / melodies that remind me of a 70's Farfisa or the dreamy vocal countenance, a blend of coy aloofness and endearing head nods, that is offering the kind of escapism you need (when you desperately need it).

This crush of indie rock, psych rock, alt pop with a jazz patina is what you might need as well.

"There's something wrong outside
Said the basement tune the other night
You should go
It's a long way to another soul

And if I could find
A different place a different time
A time to my wine

There's something wrong inside
Said the demon to the only light
You should go
It's a long to another soul

And if I could find
A different place a different time
Time to my wine

There's something wrong outside x4"

clocked in. tuned out.

Very Busy People sit on the edge of tension and leisure. Formed in Austin, TX in 2017, the indie collective has constantly evolved and incorporates elements of jazz, psychedelic, dance, and folk music.

The quintuplet provides a reprieve from the monotony of modern life, and a rebellion against corporate control.
