"take a car / drive around / there are secrets you can find..."
The day dreamy, multi-colored dangling penchants of "All is in your head" by Montpellier, France's songwriter / musician Frank Rabeyrolles, and a first glimpse of an upcoming 2026 album on the French label Too Good To Be True, rolls along on circular guitars and a steady wanderlustful cadence. I am loving the chill, slightly askew atmospheres that ebb and flow on ambient pop tones highlighted by supporting backing vocals, simply beautiful guitar lines and pearly keys. The sense here is an existential lullaby, a suggestion to turn inward by turning off social media and turning your sense of self back on, look back and forward in unison. I am also loving Rabeyrolles vocal countenance, gentle and self assured as a guide, holding our hands and floating along above the fray. And what a fray it is.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[...an unclassifiable type of the French music scene, he got noticed in 2004 with Life behind the window, the first album of his project Double u. His dreamy and hybrid music, oscillating between pop, electronic and songwriting, surprises and seduces. He can be found in Les Inrockuptibles and Libération and is ranked album of the month in Trax. A prolific and insatiable artist, Frank Rabeyrolles released a solid succession of albums under Double u first then Franklin on different labels such as Sonar Kollektiv, Nocturne, Karat, Plug Research. His way of creating over the years, and decades now, could be seen as an aspiration to artistic ritual driven by passion but also as an existential necessity ...At the end of 2011, it was under his real name that Frank Rabeyrolles decided to release a new album and with it, a desire to bare himself a little more. Between Experimental Pop, Folk Lo fi, Ambient, Frank never wanted or needed to choose. The sequel arrives in 2021 with A ghost by the sea, a record that asserts itself as Ambient, also endowed with a melodic and contemplative obsession that has been a trademark since its beginnings. In 2022 and 2023 he composed Boat Songs and Minor Blue, bittersweet ballads, in chiaroscuro, built around clear and concise guitars accompanied by Romain Delorme, Sebastien Pasquet in Guitar/Bass/Drums Trio.We find themes such as the fatality of an escape from the world, the relationship to time, sometimes redemptive, sometimes alienating, leading to the loss of oneself. This permanent tension to escape from movement but also from fullness, from wide open spaces, constitutes the common thread of Frank Rabeyrolles' music and also explains this Demon - in the Hubert Selby Jr sense of the term - of perpetual mutation...]

Early 2024 Frank Rabeyrolles returns to the solitary work of the Home studio in which he lends himself to cultivating a gentle schizophrenia between tenderness, sound roundness, echoes, spleen and hopes.`He is preparing a new album ''In conversations'' which will be released in February 2025 on his label Wool Recordings. The first Single ''Your green Jacket'' is released on November 8th. It is a title dedicated to the friendship forever lost towards a loved one. Built around acoustic guitars and discreetly ''electronic'' textures, it announces an intimate and Lofi album completely assumed.
