Sisters and the stealthy yet fully explosive art-post-punk anti-self idolatry of "Creatures"

"maybe I just don't understand / where you're coming from /maybe I just don't hardly know you / maybe I'd leave the door wide open / but that's just not the point anymore..."

The stealthy yet fully explosive art-post-punk anti-self idolatry of "Creatures", by Liverpool based half American half British band Sisters, is wonderfully rendered, precise yet feral, declarative but wholy (or maybe unholy) emotionally malleable / interpretive. What is there to love here? Well, the kind of baroque grunge guitar sound, Jane Kero's fully barbed vocal performance, the fully realized bass with such a bawdy sound, the drumming (sonically rich, you want to float on the tom toms), the tubular lead guitar attacks that feel so beautifully sinewy, the Pixies-esque quiet / loud, Kero's askew mysterious storytelling. Well, I guess just fucking everything.

Last time around, I mentioned this in terms of descriptors:

"I thought of a diverse blend of iconic artists like XTC or Icehouse or The Cardigans and more contemporary artists like The Last Dinner Party or Jace Cameron, maybe not exactly sonically but artistically adjacent."

AND, in a kind of amalgam of sounds, I think that is pretty solid, maybe I would want to add the Pixies but adjacent artists, I suppose aren't as important as the alluring sound that these guy put out there, not to mention how well their sound is engineered / produced. Wow.

"Creatures" is track five off of Sisters' album "BITE" you can check out now on their Bandcamp.

Sisters are James Fritz, Ethan Carson, Lauren Louise, Jane Kero, Lewis Gray.

The half American half British band Sisters is a Liverpool based group lead by singer and primary songwriter Jane Kero. The self described ‘dreamy, poetic, weepy rock' band has traceable influences such as Wolf Alice, PJ Harvey, The Cardigans, and more. Sonically the band has developed a knack for catchy hooks and introspective lyrics, but not at the expense of experimentation.

Despite the band's age, Sisters has been featured on the social medias of popular local music critics and music magazines that have pushed the band into gaining traction quickly and under very positive light. Formed in 2024 but conceptualized years before, Sisters is making steps and paying their dues around the Northwest UK. The band is looking forward to their future and the release of their most recent endeavors.
