You Citizen and the sonic blazing line fire of "Blue To Be Monday"

"C'mon take a bow for this part of peace of mind / No one make a sound cause it’s hard to be / Ruminate aloud to see how the pieces lie / Cause maybe it will jog all this memory..."

The sonic blazing line fire of "Blue To Be Monday", by indie singer-songwriter / musician Bill McElnea, absolutely pumps up your dance adrenaline. I mean you cannot help but move to this track and while those of us who cannot technically dance will simply be flailing around, that's ok too. Aesthetically, this has a kind of core heartland rock flavor to me, but sonically, the overall sound and especially the wailing guitar that feels like it was recorded in the back of a reflective room, edges headfirst into pools of garage rock, tinged with the rawness of grunge even and sort of 90's alt rock / indie and I am loving the tonal quality here, the sparse drop outs and the explosive soaring guitar work. McElnea vocal countenance, husky, yelpy, strong but vulnerable sits perfectly within the musical sound and the those aforementioned lead licks that sort of become part of the narrative is so key here in the way the song pulls you in. The musical blends have me thinking (in my mind) of an inspired amalgam of Hüsker Dü, Wire, The Killers, The Replacements.

LYRICS

C'mon take a bow for this part of peace of mind
No one make a sound cause it’s hard to be
Ruminate aloud to see how the pieces lie
Cause maybe it will jog all this memory

Lose your way every time
Fair no way but still sublime

Passed enough around here, soon will be Sunday
Dread me lying down here, look forward to Monday
Teach me not to bother, soon to be someday
Please be back around here, blue to be Monday

Cursed to be the sole man who feels each slight of eye
Happy that it’s not you and only me
Tendency is always to walk right through the fire
But maybe you’ve been burned now adequately

Fair no way / still sublime

Passed enough around here, soon will be Sunday
Dread me lying down here, look forward to Monday
Teach me not to bother, soon to be someday
Please be back around here, blue to be Monday

Dig this.
