BILK out of Essex, UK are respectively: Sol Abrahams (vox, guitar), Luke Hare (bass) and James Holland (drums) and when I heard their debut track Give Up my eyes immediately widened and my back straightened up.
In fact, I can say, without equivocation, that there is not one second of this track that I don't like. The song jams and speaking of jamming. I thought of one of my favorite bands of all time The Jam not because BILK sounds like Paul Weller and the boys but that they do sound, oh so, British and I love that fact as it lends musical punk gravitas to their sound. You know how it is today, UK bands singing without their accent and USA artists sometimes singing with a kind of hybrid British accent (take for example Ty Segall). It can be confusing in a way but BILK keeps it simple and oh so real.
Give Up bleeds with working class bleakness as the bass and drums piston pump away while the guitar jags feel like explosions throughout. BILK keep it straight forward and relentless making sounds that feel like a soundtrack to countless lives.
