Fable-esque, expressionistic, broken pop of Moony Matelot's "Fata Morgana" from the EP of the same name is a gem

Moony Matelot's track Fata Morgana from the EP of the same name (just released on August 30th, 2019) is a sort of Casiofied kaleidoscope of popsound presented in a very avant garde way. The diversions of sounds, the progs and melodies sway in surprising ways but even more so, it is the sound here that casts so many images in my mind. It almost feels like a mini opera with different parts making different stories in your head. There is the opening majestic silent movie sound that made me think a bit of Elton John's Funeral For A Friend and then it shifts into a sort of almost 80's power pop tone and then the opera changes once again with a kind of art rock bravado. And remember, all of it, all of this is pushed trough a very kind of dirty synth sound (overall) making it sound even more askew. It is fable-esque and proto punkish at the same time.

The EP offers different sounds from the exuberant, almost sitcom-ish love affair of Munich with dual vocals harmonizing to very trancy percussive Intermission (In The Englischer Garten) to Alone (Together) with it's sort of 1960's tropical punk feel and walkie talkie vox as well as Baby Blue, that veers into Gershwin like imaginings.

So very, very interesting and engaging.
