AP Track Review
The sadly wrought yet beautifully surreal rock ballad, Complicated, from L.A. rock duo Repenter's EP "Chapter 1" begins with tape reel horror pop inclinations followed by an ominous drum beat. Enter Thomas Scriven's low guitar strummed melodies anchored by a massive sounding bass line. Holly Winter's utterly blessed vox grow out of this dense sonic mire bruised and torn sounding. Within the closed eyes vocal performance, her low deeply aware tones are so absolutely beautiful in a sad reflective way. We have all, at sometime in our lives, felt alone in a dark place. As stories are told of hanging on when all feels lost, Winters vocal register soars in truly stunning ways. Goosebumps literally skate across my skin as she floats through the post rock fog with Scriven close by in the swelling chorus.

L.A. duo Repenter gear up for the release of their debut EP, Complicated, due out next week! Comprised of vocalist Holly Winter and guitarist Thomas Scriven, Repenter bring their grungy, garage-rock energy to the forefront of today's alternative scene. The EP features title-track "Complicated," a stunning addition to the duo's repertoire along with new track "So Far From Home."
Probably our favorite from the duo so far, "Complicated" is a stunning ballad with incredible sonic moments. Winter's voice shines and her dynamism is unparalleled. From her sweet falsetto to powerful lows, Winter shows just how powerful of an instrument her voice is. It's easy to fall in love with Repenter as they pour it all out in this sweetly-sad track.
"Making music is a huge privilege and responsibility that we take so seriously," says Winter. "In addition to 'So Sick' and 'Skeletons,' the next two songs from this EP dive straight into all the heavy feels. This time though, my chest is filleted like a fish on the operating table. 'So Far From Feeling' and 'Complicated' are songs from that open heart surgery."
