Carnival Kid's Single - "Three And A Half Minutes" about cries for love and "Supermarket" about unrequited desire

AP Track Review

Carnival Kid (Germany) is the indie / alternative solo project of Christian Stezycki and his poignant new single Three And A Half Minutes begins with a cacophonous swell of children yelling and playing and then falls away to Stezycki's intimate vox and acoustic strains. Before you know it the song is filling up with flourishes of sound and lovely stacked vocals and eventually a beat cutting a swath through it all.

Of the song, Stezycki says, "Three And A Half Minutes is a song that is very much inspired by work as a teacher at a public school in a socially problematic area. Most of the kids I deal with think that being rude and loud is the one way to be seen by their teachers, parents and friends."

The B-side moves from school children to adults. The evocative Supermarket is about a secret meeting between a man and women searching for love while married to others. It is about warm desire and cold feet. The track recorded in one take is starkly intimate and works for that reason. Hinged on Christian's introspective vocal performance and the faintest of added instrumentation it tells the all too common and human story of love and life complicated by life and love.
