Poetic lyricism and raw post punk ghosts on "Weightless" by 100

AP Track Review

Hailing from Sydney, 100 presents the track “Weightless” that is reminiscent of post punk predecessors but has a modern quality. With an intensity that honors Aussie punk gods Radio Birdman, the instrumentation is a driving force that bobs your head. The poetic lyricism creates a mood that escalates through the music as the sound revs up. This is the kind of music that makes you want to go see it live, raw and in the flesh. Locals may have the upper hand in having a thriving punk/rock scene to experience, so take advantage of it if you can. The song is lengthy, but it’s certainly worth a full listen. Keep em coming, 100. Let us know when you’re in the states.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

Triple J’s Tommy Faith described 100’s single “Just Us” as “[a] savage, literate piece of punk”. A statement that rings true about the band as a whole. 100’s approach to song writing and performing live is relentless and unforgiving whilst still leaving room for self reflection and an unparalleled rawness.
The band are self aware as they delve deeper into their sound, drawing influences from a multitude of genres spanning from country to post punk fused with the angst driven rock of early 90’s acts; The Replacements and Fugazi. Drummer, Paris Grant also pulls inspiration from his side hustle as a trap & hip hop producer for some of Sydney’s most exciting up & coming rappers.
After the release of their debut EP, Cortisone in late 2018 the band have been living up to their name showing no signs of slowing down. Their live show began to garner local attention and 100 became a must-see live act on the Sydney circuit, earning the nod of approval in the form of 2 nominations in FBi Radio’s SMAC awards. (Best Live Act, Next Big Thing)
This reputation landed them spots on Bad Friday Festival, Fairgrounds, Secret Garden and saw the band hit the road nationally with fellow Sydney rockers, Pist Idiots.
Somehow in the midst of all this the band found time to build their own studio in Sydenham where they’ll bunker down for the rest of winter, fine tuning new material to be released before the year’s end.
“What 100 lack in search engine optimisation they more than make up for where it really counts: up close and live, 100’s hard-hitting, punchy post-punk comes into its own”
