Atlanta's Rujen - twisting surf rock tropicalia of "Luna" from their "Elsewhere" debut EP

📸Colin Murphy Edit: Ryan Miller

The debut "Elsewhere" EP by Atlanta's Rujen has different flavors for our tasting. Take fluid track Title track with it's mixture of vibrant post rock with proggy tendencies (great track) or Deep End with forays into a kind of light jazz fused rock. Turn left and you will veer into the track NY with a kind of 80's new wave meets lounge rock and then there is the dreamy Luna which pushes sock hop punk buttons with a dash of surf rock tropicalia. The track, in fact, borrows a tiny bit of all the aforementioned genres and ALL of the tracks have a psyche rock shine. In some ways, Rujen's sounds made me think of a collision of the Buttertones, Bad Suns and Corners (but decide for yourself).

Sidenotes: stand out tracks: ALL OF THEM

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

Blending elements of indie and neo-psychedelic rock, Atlanta’s five-piece Rujen create vibrant, densely layered atmospheres of tones, textures, and introspective vocals that swell, echo, and distort with fierce synergy.
Recorded from the group’s modest home studio and mixed by local producer Jason Kingsland (DeerhunterBand of HorsesYouth Lagoon), the debut “Elsewhere” EP released in 2019 as a follow-up to nearly 2 years of live performances around the local Atlanta scene.
