Matan Benzvi's psyche dream indie rock "War" stirs on rolling keys and Benzvi's vocal edges

AP Track Reviews

The track War by Brooklyn, NY transplant by way of Israel, Matan Benzvi and from his upcoming album "The Key to Your Heart" (dropping in February 2020) has a surreal sense about it. Maybe it is the ephemeral rolling keys that suggest a fever dream, or maybe it is Benzvi's vocal style. He winds out his words and intensely chews on them in a style in between protest folk and proto punk. But as surreal and maybe psychedelic the song feels, there is the sense of dread too as Benzvi sings,
"War, it's not what you see, In between empty sockets, Lies all our fear" and "Be Careful...Wonderful...Terrified... Children" and when the song erupts in a cacophony of sounds and Benzvi's distant wails, it could very well be the sounds of air strikes overhead.
