Premiere:: Black Books' dark, yet hopeful intentions on the dreamy, psyche affair "Goodbye Cool" (Official Video)

"similar to that euphoric high"

The guitar sound / lines on Austin, Texas' Black Books' latest track Goodbye Cool are so supremely dreamy, held up gently by synths and a deceptively heavy bass and languid drum beats. When the vox glide in, they do not come in a down turned hush like a lot of psyche tinged dream pop affairs but instead as a passionate wail. Behind the dreaminess, the melodies do possess dark tones and sad core intentions. In terms of the overall aesthetic and the big lush chorus (though) you soon realize that the dreaminess feels a lot more like 70's chamber pop (with a wash of psychedelia) than the other way around. At the core, the song, done up (for example) on keys and voice alone (while maybe re-shaped) would be just as dreamy, just as moving and just as powerful. That fact looms large, because if a song is as substantial stripped down as it is done full force that is the sign of a great song.

The Official Video is cast in visions of some sort of biological crisis or worse. Evocatively shot, the dark vision, a popular motif during these troubled times makes the song feel even more dour and poignant

Goodbye Cool is from the band's latest upcoming EP entitled "Cheer Up"-
