The trancy "See You" by Sheenah Ko reconnects through electronic dreams (Official Video)

"a sense of fearlessness"

The track See You by Sheenah Ko from the onset puts you in an almost arpeggio laden drug stupor. I don't mean that in a bad way but the electro drenched beats coupled with Ko's mesmerizing vox and synths (or is that a guitar?) that soar like future feedback swells, feels very sci fi and very floaty. Casting aside my odd description and sudden loss of words (eh) I am feeling such a cool vibe that pushes nostalgic 80's baroque pop buttons too. When the track stops, it feels so abrupt like only seconds have gone by... mmmm?? Yes, I suppose I was in a trance of sorts. I was for sure and looking at today's news scrolling on my phone, about to push play.... again.

Sheenah Ko is one of the core members of Montreal based indie band Besnard Lakes and a touring keyboardist for Bedoin Soundclash. See You is from Ko's upcoming album "Nowhere In Time" due to drop on March 27 (2020).

About See You and the accompanying Official Video, Ko offers:

“When I wrote See You, I was just coming to the realization that this is a huge step in growing up, or else, you could become way too disconnected with yourself. It’s an incredible feeling when you can see and live life the way you did as a child, knowing this is who you really are with that pure, honest energy and curiosity”
“Brittney Canda, who has been my performance partner for many years, captured the essence of See You beautifully by featuring her father, Larry Gering, who was a trick skier back in the 70s”, Ko explains further. “The video shows him reminiscing/revisiting those days in a beautiful and charming way, and in essence, re-living the days of his youth. Brittney directed the video (shot by boyfriend Vincent RenĂ©-Lortie using handheld cameras) and edited in her father’s super 8 footage.  Absolutely all of the footage in the video is completely original”.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

If you could visualize the music of Sheenah Ko, it would be a cascade of colour, full of bold strokes, the splattering vibrancy of Jackson Pollock, the haunting emotive power of Edvard Munch’s The Scream, and a dose of Warholian pop.

Best known as one of the core members of Montreal-based indie darlings Besnard Lakes, and as the touring keyboardist for Bedouin Soundclash, the experience she gained working with so many different bands and music genres over the years has given Sheenah a sense of fearlessness, which in turn has led to the development of a synth-pop sound that is an amalgam of many styles. Her music is infused with an enigmatic, sometimes cinematic drama and musical literacy that allows her music to rise above the pop music moniker into the realm of compelling art.
Her new single and video “See You”, the second single from her forthcoming album “Nowhere In Time” (releasing March 27, 2020)  is an upbeat, dance-y track about rediscovering your inner child (ie: your 7-year-old self) before life/adult expectations came in the picture.
