The push and pull of Santans' indie rock struggle "Blanc Cassé" (Official Video)

"To be in an endless limbo"

The Official Video for Blanc Cassé from Munich's Santans shows a barefoot man trudging through deep snow in the wilderness clothed only in jeans and a long sleeved shirt. It is an ordeal. It is as if he was left for dead. He crawls, finds shoes but doesn't put them on but, instead, uses them for something else. You will have to see what happens for yourself. It is a tale told in circular ways and is about pain and sacrifice.

The song, Blanc Cassé, move in indie rock ways but has jazz rock flourishes and sad core tones. Santans is the musical project of Chris Pham and the making of the video and song has been an ordeal itself, taking years to complete.

we’re still young, pages are undrawn
full stops are set, settled and gone
if dawn’s the end it can linger
mental limbo above my finger

Blanc Cassé is the single from an upcoming EP and while there is no tentative date yet, the theme of the EP is Pain and Chris has this to offer about the EP and the single in particular:

"It is about standing in your own way even though you know what to do. The pain and struggle with it. I wanted the video to express this struggle. To be in an endless limbo. This song has a long history. The drums were recorded back in 2016 in an abandoned swimming centre. The rest was recorded in 2017 in a hotel room I rented. (Then) The whole song was cancelled by me in 2018.
2019 I got my shit together and shot the music video."
