"i'm an animal but i'll never be your dog"
Brett Newski is a man with an interesting past that includes him moving to Vietnam (2011) after all the less's in his life caught up with him, as in jobless, band-less and girl-less. While in Saigon, he wrote about a 100 power folk songs that coalesced down to his album, American Folk Armageddon (2014). Now Newski tours 200 plus dates per year and has been featured on the likes of Rolling Stone, Paste, The Boston Globe, NoDepression, Guitar World, and Blurt Magazine.
The track, Last Dance from his studio album "Don't Let the Bastards Get You Down" is a blustery and brazen folk rocker with punk tendencies. Newski's story telling cuts deep like a busker's street tales with a vocal aesthetic that chews on words and spews his folk punk diatribe with both arms swinging. There may or may not be a genre descriptor called "free for all folk" but if there was Newski's punchy alt folk would certainly fit.
