"I'm breathing out"
Folding from Glutenhead, the shape shifting brainchild of Toronto native Benjamin Shapiro is a big audacious emotional bloodletting but then that could be said of a lot of Shapiro's genre bending work (just listen to Naked in Toronto). When Shapiro goes off (vocally) with his blood pressure raising wail it is like an explosion and you can feel his real emotional distress. In that sense he tosses bits of emo into the mix but it doesn't sound or feel like emo (thankfully) and his songs are too divergent to be pegged down under the emo umbrella. Folding, in fact, blends indie pop, ambient, electro pop, tropical pop, emo and indie rock. Glutenhead also is not afraid to let the music do the talking when it makes sense with long passages of chill tones between the lovely musical disarray. When the backing vox come in (layers of female vox) to offset Shapiro's coarse vocal aesthetic amid droning synths, the song really gets wonderfully crazy and surprising. Wow.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Glutenhead is a project born out of Toronto native Benjamin Shapiro's genre-bending experiments. Interlacing an eclectic array of influences including disco, krautrock, 2000's indie rock, 80's pop, and 90's emo - music from Glutenhead glides through the mind, bouncing off the inside walls of the skull back and forth, creating reverberations that echo and echo. After releasing the left-field debut album Glugen Frau in the summer of 2019 (written, produced, and performed by Benjamin), Glutenhead has been gaining traction locally, known for bizarre and wild shows with their 6-piece live band. With multiple sold-out shows around under their belt, their reputation in Toronto has become a cascade of fireworks.
