"we wouldn't talk anymore"
At the center of the Belgium indie pop /rock band River Into Lake (formerly V.O) stands Boris Gronemberger. Prior to being RIL, he and his bandmates composed and arranged many soundtracks for theater, dance and film. The song Grande Prairie is the first song of a new EP due to release in December 2020 as a direct follow up and maybe even a continuation of River Into Lake's 2019 album "Let The Beast Out". From the first textured synth strikes that give way to an almost waltz like pattern and Gronemberger's evocative fuzzed vocal aesthetic, the indie pop persona is heavy. As the song take off, the beats, a combination of drums and electronic beats, is signature and the storytelling with guitar valleys and hills have a beautiful sense of wanderlust, of a journey. I did, for some reason think of Death Cab For Cutie although RIL possess a more post rock light progressive rock sound than Death Cab. As the song progresses, the music tells the story on its own in long dramatic passages of sound. A journey well worth taking.
“La Grande Prairie is a place where we were going to celebrate the end of the exams with friends. Some of them have meanwhile passed away. It’s a song that talks about carelessness, the strength of youth heckled by the movements of society that seems to crash straight into the wall.” -RIL

RIVER INTO LAKE is a belgian indie-pop band that was formerly known as V.O.
Created by Boris Gronemberger (just look for the mustache), the band is based in Brussels where he and his five other musicians are behind the scenes composing scores, arranging soundtracks for renowned productions of theater, dance, and cinema.
They also play(ed) in many different projects such as Girls in Hawaii, Soy un Caballo, Françoiz Breut, Blondy Brownie, Castus… a.o.
After 5 years, some silence, a solo European tour as support of Agnes Obel in 2017, Boris and his team come back with a new name and a new album to be released in Spring 2019 on Humpty Dumpty records.
This new album, ‘let the beast out’, is probably the most ambitious they ever made, a sweet mix of analog synths, drum machines and acoustic instruments, Pop and Jazz harmonies, a string quartet, and lots of love.
It’s a record about getting rid of the fears, living together, moving on, it’s a hymn to the beauty of the Universe.
