Jon Patrick Walker blends his storytelling, folk, glam rock affection on "Blackwater Street"

"what do I feel invisibly"

Blackwater Street by Jon Patrick Walker, singer-songwriter, provocateur, actor and from his upcoming album "The Rented Tuxedo & Other Songs" begins dreamy in a sort of baroque pop way and, while the sounds raised an eyebrow, I was, yet, not convinced. Then the tone shifts, plunging into acoustic guitar, percussion and Walkers evocative storytelling and the song grabbed me by the shirt collar, pulled me close and kissed me on the cheek. It feels so glammy, sultry, and Brit pop with potent electric stabbing guitar downbeats and art rocking lead work. It's all very sort of T-Rex and I love that. Also kudos to the drum work here, it is on point (and so good) for this sound. Walker has an allure to his vocal aesthetic, a way with words that bounce in that glam sort of way. He is obviously a fan of the genre. The lyrics are charming, smart and inviting,

"She's got a flat on Blackwater Street
and I'm looking for a room to land
I got no pets
don't play that rock and roll
never touched no funny cigarettes
my references are good
I live at home with my dad
and if you ask him
he would surely tell you
that I ain't bad"

"The Rented Tuxedo & Other Songs" was recorded with legendary producer Roger Moutenot in Nashville (the title-track was written in Memphis and recorded at Sun Studio)

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

A highly respected actor for nearly 30 years, appearing on Broadway (most recently playing King George to raves on the national tour of Hamilton), on Television and in Film, JP has turned his creative energies to songwriting and music-making, releasing his first album, The Guilty Party, in 2013. Jon followed that up with Josh Kaufman-produced LP, People Going Somewhere, in 2016. A six-song EP entitled, You And I was released in 2018, and last October, Jon released long-player Welcome to the Edge Times, which garnered rave reviews.

His latest effort, arriving a mere 8-months later, is The Rented Tuxedo & Other Songs, a masterful and polished 9-track collection. Imbued with humor, pathos, wit and musical sophistication, songs variously recall work by David Bowie, Simon & Garfunkel, the Beatles and Bob Dylan, even as Jon’s unique sensibility shines through every track. The record was recorded this winter with legendary producer Roger Moutenot in Nashville, although the title-track was written in Memphis and recorded there at Sun Studio last summer. Jon lives in Los Angeles with his wife, the actress Hope Davis, their two daughters and their dog, Jennie.
