"give it to me baby"
anybodys is a hyper dramatic, synth driven murder ballad by Toronto based Nyssa. Now, the song with it's synth drone / bass, Nyssa's powerful vocal croon and unabashedly over dramatic sense of black and white 50's killer movies, "I see you got out of the big house in one piece..." draws you in like a guilty pleasure. As the song grows within the beautiful heavy storytelling, "they said stick to the shadow but there's not enough light to cast a shadow" and "think you were crying when you cuffed me" or "with blood on my face shackled abused with the boys with bad taste" and, especially, when the shotgun drum beat begins, I thought (yes I really did) of artists like Bonnie Tyler (Total Eclipse of the Sun) and Meatloaf (Two Out of Three Ain't Bad). Maybe you will too, I mean anybodys has got that same kind of grind house pretensions (or ascensions) with an audaciously drawn vocal aesthetic. And don't think for a minute that I am being derisive, I am not. I for one, cannot resist Nyssa's tortured comely croon but it will be interesting to see what other directions that absolutely killer voice takes her.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
“#1Girl” is a rollicking paean to the too-often unsung, life-defining, huge-love connection between best pals-4-life. A future karaoke cult-classic and blast-able bop for all the BFFs to fill their bedrooms, dancefloors, and headphones.
Self-produced at home and in the studio with friends and fixtures of the Toronto scene, Matthew Aldred (Michael Rault, Teenage Man) and Zack Burgess (Gardenworld, Kremlin) on guitar, bass, and drums, “#1GIRL” is pure punk-bubblegum exultation.
Nyssa’s cross-decade, cross-genre approach to songwriting and production are a rabble-rousing, wrecking ball to collective malaise and ennui, while her 21st century greaser style and sneer—like some kind of “alternate universe hard-rock disco Elvis” (DOMINIONATED)—form a beacon for the disillusioned.
Nyssa has been writing and performing music since she was 12 years old—cutting her teeth in the Toronto scene and befriending musicians of all ages and paths throughout her formative years. Between her loner childhood, musical obsessions, and over a decade waiting tables and people watching, she’s cultivated a distinct lyrical voice and production style, seeking to tell stories that haven’t been told and forge unique sonic pathways.
Watching Nyssa perform live, one gets the sense of witnessing something important. Performing solo to her self-produced backing tracks, she exudes a punk-Madonna vibe that feels completely fresh and unprecedented. Having become something of a local hero, she’s been handpicked to open for such stalwarts as The Voidz, Fucked Up, Juan Wauters, and Alex Cameron.
