Urban Heat and the synth wave / industrial punk gravitational pull of "That Gun In Your Hand" (Official Performance Video)

"hey there son, do you want to be a man?"

As you watch the Live tracked video of Urban Heat performing their evocative and provocative track That Gun In Your Hand with it's absolutely gorgeous synthwave sound that cements the beat to the ground and Jonathan Horstmann's passionate vocal performance, you might, like me, feel your eyes widen and jaw drop. With the electro beat and underground proto punk-eque meets dark industrial rock atmospheres it is shiny, dangerous and intoxicating. Hostmann's vocals have a serious gravitational pull, his aesthetic is sultry, muscular and emotionally deep.

Horstmann became more entranced with synthesizers as a matter of a major life change and a matter of convenience: (see press notes)

[Jonathan Horstmann's love affair with synthesizers began with the birth of his first child. Leaving his electro-punk band BLXPLTN and trading his electric guitar for subtractive synthesis, he was able to write in headphones while his new family slept. That first collection of songs and sounds became the foundation for what would eventually become Urban Heat. Horstmann recruited road-ready Kevin Naquin after coming off of opening for TV on the Radio on a nationwide tour to fill in synth duties on stage, and added longtime friend, bassist Paxel Foley.]

Urban Heat is so incredibly engaging in every way. They are based out of Texas but I am secretly hoping and praying they head out west to Cali.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Jonathan Horstmann's love affair with synthesizers began with the birth of his first child. Leaving his electro-punk band BLXPLTN and trading his electric guitar for subtractive synthesis, he was able to write in headphones while his new family slept. That first collection of songs and sounds became the foundation for what would eventually become Urban Heat. In 2019 Horstmann was selected as a Texas music ambassador through non-profit ProjectATX6 and has since performed at Canada's Indie Week and Thailand's Jai Thep Festival. In May 2020 was scheduled to perform at the UK's Great Escape Festival. Urban Heat was selected as an official artist at SXSW 2020.

In early 2020 the band caught the attention of Brett Orrison, who, after spending years FOH mixing Jack White, Widespread Panic, and the Black Angels, decided to start an independent label. Urban Heat signed to Orrison's Spaceflight Records in February 2020. The band's first single on Spaceflight is due in April 2020.
