Firetail's psychedelic jazz rock "So Skinny" spirals out of and in control

"burdoo doo bop bop bop"

Firetail's track So Skinny (featuring Emily Bennet) is a jazz rock fueled odyssey. The musical descent anchored by shifting, fill infected drums and a funk-ified bass, squealing horns, layers of vocal conversations, with ambient electronica fluttering about while bongos surround and you will surely feel like you are under the influence, (name your drug of choice). At a certain point the song completely deconstructs into a cacophony of sounds that will either dig you deeper into a psychedelic haze or drive you utterly bonkers but hang in there. The sounds long outro feels like a dark escapist spy caper with a giant robot with saxophone legs chasing you.

Firetail hail from Melbourne, Australia. So Skinny is from their forthcoming EP and is being released by We Grow Wax Records.

Jamie McElhinney (Bass), Hong Yang (Keys), Anna Gordon (Sax),
Keshav Yoganathan (Percussion), Marcos Villalta (Guitar), Jaccquise Hempshall (Drums) and Emily Bennett (Vocals).

Firetails music spans from 70’s jazz-fusion, South Indian Carnatic
music and Melbourne share house filth. Formed in 2018 as a
collaborative recording project the band has developed an ambient
approach that mixes bass heavy rhythms with evocative melodies
and driving percussion.

With members from The Barons of Tang, 8 Foot Felix, The Seven
Ups and the Hot Potato Band joining forces to create colliding
compositions, you can expect fearless improvising and intense onstage energy.
Since forming, Firetail has performed everywhere from warehouse
parties to festivals such as Tanglewood and Folk Rhythm and Life
and has had a long string of weekly residencies in Melbourne’s
vibrant scene.
Early 2020 Firetail will release their debut EP recorded at Wood St
Studios with Erik Parker. The tracks feature collaborations with
vocalist’s Emily Bennett (Great Rack and an empty club reverb)
and Kristie McKraken (Meiwa, Thando).
