Gravity Circus and their DIY musical imaginings on "Shuteye"
"the computer might be ok but the kid ain't safe or sound"
Gravity Circus is based out of the Netherlands and are comprised of Brazilian / Japanese 'left man' Jimmy "Onibi" Nagaura Yabiko and Dutch / German 'right man', Ken "Toro" Luske. Besides balancing each other out in the creative sense, in that Ying Yang sort of way, they both take a sideways DIY approach to creating music. I mean, Fiona Apple bangs on some walls or floors and is considered some kind of genius for using things around her to flavor her musical aesthetic, while Onibi and Toro have (for a long time) utilized a list of ingredients to flavor their sounds that include (but are not limited to) guitars, lamps, bass, dishwashers, drums, bottles, synths, paper towels, air-dryers, limbs, cheeks, broken equipment and phones.
Their latest track Shuteye percolates on a super catchy acoustic guitar jag with percussion that does feel like cheek pops but soon enough explodes into big bass and beats and dreamy synths. The vox bounce exquisitely creating melodies that wrap around you, making you feel like you are floating in the vibe they have created. It is delicious... lush with tiny nuances of surprising sounds to revel in.
Where did this stubborn DIY approach lead them? To an upcoming EP "Komorebi", still recorded in the bedroom but mixed by multi-grammy nominated producer Bryan Wilson (Sofi Tukker, Arctic Monkeys) and mastered by award winning mastering engineer Robin Schmidt (24-96 Mastering).

In the summer of 2016, Brazilian Japanese left man Jimmy “Onibi” Nagaura Yabiko and Dutch German right man Ken “Toro” Luske formed Gravity Circus, a Dutch duo of two friends with shared musical tastes.
With their stubborn DIY approach and their "nothing left to lose" state of mind, they set themselves out to conquer all radio stations and personal playlists for at least 4 minutes and hopefully declare their improvised, on the spot speech in front of the future Grammy audience (with pants on, obviously).
The ingredients to this acquired taste recipe are (but not limited to): guitars, lamps, bass, dishwashers, drums, bottles, synths, paper towels, airdryers, limbs, cheeks, broken equipment and phones. Nothing is safe from the cheap impeccable imagination of our two youthlings in their late 20's.
It's all fun and games 'till their imagination becomes reality. From melancholic, mellow tunes to silly pumping melodies and cryptic lyrics to cynical themes, Gravity Circus attempts to create different musical landscapes in the spectrum of joy and tragedy. If you could name an emotional rollercoaster, it would probably be Gravity Circus.
