"mo down mo down Vum Vum"
Pandagolff, the first time I heard that name I thought of that weird anteater / armadillo sort of animal called a pangolin that was possibly suspected of being the source of Covid 19 but, I think, since then has been exonerated of such, dang, did I just type out my inner voice again! Let's start over.
Pandagolff is a Japanese post art punk band and when I heard the exponentially effervescent anti pop sound of, VUM VUM 75, I immediately thought of outfits like the Tom Tom Club, Shonen Knife, Cibo Matto and even Man Man or Aural Exiters. Love the stabbing guitars, the spartan spaces, snappy drums and female wide eyed vox. VUM VUM 75 feels sort of like a proto punk break dance with each element stepping into the spot light when the time is right and when it sort of erupts into a kind of post punk carnival calliope (like crazy Man Man or Modest Mouse) it goes to another place. Very interesting guys.
Pandagolff released their debut album "Pandance" in Feb (2020).

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Pandagolff
The delicate taste of post punk that would have swallowed psy-ambient in a minimal lo-fi soundscape.
The stillness of a reptile and the junk food flavor of Japanese ramen cohabiting in one sound.
Danceable, though. And pop. What is exactly Pandagolff ?!
Formed in 2019, Pandagolff released a self-produced single called “Facety pet/Mongri” that directly ranked 3rd in the monthly chart of the famous CD/record store mona records in Tokyo. Their song “JC” was then 2nd in the weekly chart of TOWER DOORS (the curation media of TOWER RECORDS).
On February 5, 2020, they release their 1st album “PANDANCE”, an opus that took everyone by surprise. Following the steps of artists like Cibo Matto -the 90’s “shibuya-kei” band from NYC-, or more recently all-female punk band Shonen Knife or CHAI, they serve some new-wave punk with a delicious cheap junk flavor.
