"you always say it like you mean it"
THE SEA THE SEA is an upstate New York based indie folk pop duo and their latest lovely offering Fall Before The Climb is by any definition a beautiful sweeping song. It is tender and gentle and may be even an unassuming song, something that I have been gravitating to (I suppose) as of late. As someone who consumes so much music, I find that there sometimes is a tendency for artists to drench their songs in the latest indie tropes of the day as opposed to just honesty that comes from stripping a piece of art to it's essence. I am feeling that essential honesty here and in some ways, 'Fall Before The Climb' feels more like a beautiful prayer than a song which is odd for me to say, being an atheist. I do feel contemporary sounds that make me think of Phoebe Bridgers but also the nostalgic of a 70's Bob Dylan and that breath and scope is, in and of itself, is something to revel in.
OF the song, the duo share:
“Fall Before the Climb” is a song that has gone through multiple versions, and was one of the exciting outgrowths of having the time and space that we did to explore songs in different ways during the writing and recording process for this entire album. This song feels like a song we needed to hear when we wrote it. It can be surprisingly easy as writers to forget that sometimes—that you can write a song you need to hear. Most of our songs tend to have a positive spin on things—I think that’s just the way we are drawn to see things—and this song feels to us, like what it feels like to dig yourself out of a difficult moment. To feel the weight of something lift. To understand something in a way that brings everything else into focus. To embrace the parts of life that are a struggle as part of the human condition — to lean in — find the beauty there, and let it be something that ultimately allows you to evolve."
THE SEA THE SEA is Chuck and Mira Costa and Fall Before The Climb is from their current 2020 album "Stumbling Home" (out via AntiFragile Music).

THE SEA THE SEA...
is an Upstate New York based indie folk-pop duo-band featuring what Huffington Post calls, “Two of the loveliest male-female voices you might ever hear this or any other year.” Their 2014 debut release, Love We Are We Love, received praise from NPR, American Songwriter, and No Depression, among others, gathering over 15 million streams on Spotify. The animated video for their song "Waiting" sparked viral interest including Buzzfeed, Pitchfork, and inclusion at the international TED 2015 conference. Mountain Stage host Larry Groce calls them "ready to take their place among the best young male/female duos now performing." Their 2016 release, the six-song EP In the Altogether, earned features by Apple Music including "Best of the Week" and "A-List Singer/Songwriter." Recently, Paste Music / Daytrotter described the band as "defined by their infallible vocal harmonies and their unconventional song arrangements. The Sea The Sea is a pop band only in their melodic infectiousness—otherwise they are at their best when subverting conventions."
