DEATH HAGS and the alt electronic / noise pop / other reality of "Dawn" is quite a midnight ride

"A thousand years of us / Staring through the ice"

Almost immediately, just a few steps into Dawn by alt electronic / noise pop artist DEATH HAGS (the musical project of Lola Jean) and you feel like you are in the 'out of breath' reality of a French
Horror movie. Jean's nuanced propensity to interject lo-fi sonic cues into the stew of droning sounds, beat groove and her layers of spoken word and proto punk-esque vox makes for a midnight movie ride. Ride might be the operative word here because the trippy song narrative does feel vast as if you are on a journey whether it be by car, on a train, slow motion roller coaster or on a drug. I love this.

Dawn is from vol. 2 of BIG GREY SUN, a seven-album kaleidoscopic exploration of the human condition and its possible futures. Recorded in Los Angeles at Studio 22 with Tomas Dolas (Mr. Elevator, Oh Sees).

Death Hags

Taking inspiration from artists like Brian Eno who forge their own musical path, Lola Jean aka DEATH HAGS takes the listener on a journey through hypnotic electronics, psych and noise pop. Following the release of four singles in 2018/2019, including "Metal Teeth" on Burger Records and "Earthbound," recorded with Tomas Dolas (Oh Sees, Mr. Elevator), Death Hags toured the U.S. and Europe extensively, including appearances at SXSW, Pop Montreal and Night Owl Fest.
