musclecars is the DJ / Producer duo of New York natives Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield and they just dropped their debut EP "Street Dreams", their own special blend of house, jazz, soul, and more.
On their Facebook page, they share, "As a true sign of the times, and as clubs are closed, we decided to do something much less for the club, and much more for your listening pleasures."
Earlier this year they made their production debut on French Horn Rebellion’s toucan sounds which included a collaboration alongside Grammy-nominated vocalist Brandon Markell Holmes. "Street Dreams" is their follow up that "embodies the essence of the neighborhoods in which their reflections are housed."
Track 3, Sol, percolates and sizzles like a hot summer evening and the movement alone, pushed with an urgency by sounds of ambiance, lively bass, drums and a rainfall of percussion (conga, timbales sounds and more) is alluring as are the beautiful hushed croon of fellow Brooklyn native Tiff Ortiz but there is much more. The piano drops that meander and saunter into dissonant places, the droning synths that tell other stories in their melodies. Sol, feels like a hot sticky dance of city lights, love and light rain to cool things down at just the right time.
musclecars also share: Big thank yous to @ortiff for her beautiful voice; to robert, @davidpm, and @toucansounds for your continuous support; to @yinyangram for your ear; to @lanakyuhekim for that lovely album cover execution; and finally, thank you to Brooklyn, and the other 4 boroughs for the inspiration.

Returning to toucan sounds for their second release, musclecars drop a deep and soulful release inspired by NYC entitled ‘Street Dreams’ featuring vocalist Tiff Ortiz.
Real names Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield, musclecars have fast become key players in New York’s vibrant house scene, whether helming their monthly Coloring Lessons events or making regular appearances on The Lot Radio. Earlier this year they made their production debut on French Horn Rebellion’s toucan sounds which included a collaboration alongside Grammy-nominated vocalist Brandon Markell Holmes. Inspired by their city, ‘Street Dreams’ is their follow up that embodies the essence of the neighbourhoods in which their reflections are housed.
‘Sun Track I’ is a beautiful opener with layered synths and a nearly beatless rhythm powered by subtle organic drums, topped off with the stunning vocals from fellow Brooklyn native Tiff Ortiz. With its funky guitar licks, intricate percussion and sultry bassline, ‘The Man Who Kept Bedstuy Warm’ is deep house at its best before ‘Sol’ follows with its low-slung groove, poignant piano keys and whispering vocals. Tying everything together, ‘Sun Track II (for Black Healing)’ is another stripped-back vocal trip oozing with soul.
Tracklist:
1. Sun Track I feat. Tiff Ortiz
2. The Man WHo Kept Bedstuy Warm
3. Sol
4. Sun Track II (for Black Healing) feat. Tiff Ortiz
5. Sol (Edit)
