"green Monday morning with my cigarette and cup of coffee"
On the dark and dancy Outside by Portland based alternative blendo band Les Gold there are feelings of claustrophobia and, well, complications amid the surf punk meets desert rock with beach goth affections. The languid tempo, evocative sing-along vox that feel like an amalgam of Miles Michaud and Jim Morrison and the sobering lyrics, "outside, outside my window there's a body in a bag, inside, I got a feeling, it's the worst I've ever had" is drenched in the current uncertainty of Covid 19. Amid the droll escapism and the cool funkiness, "sometimes, sometimes it feels like this is never gonna' end", Outside feels darkly happy in some way too or maybe just drunk.
Les Gold was founded by frontman Jenson Tuomi, singer Travis Ezell, lead guitarist Tim Kaye, bassist Nick Wright, and drummer Walter Stern. The band has cultivated a sound that mixes homegrown Northwest indie-rock with elements of folk rock, dream pop, surf rock, 1950’s R&B, and other influences.

Since releasing their first EP 'More Silver' and finding success in its primary single ‘Silver Platters’, Les Gold has continued to drop additional releases as they’ve cultivated their sound and explored while staying true to their form and continuing to pioneer the self-titled “Bummer Fun” genre. In the last year, Les Gold has brought on a new drummer, Cory Aboud, who has been critical in advancing the sound of the band and has contributed to new recordings done with Ryan Furlott (Rise Records, Rain City Records), Jake Jarvis (River House Studios), and Bob Stark (Sonic Media Studios).
After multiple tours of the west coast, listeners increasing by the hundreds of thousands, and opportunities to open for major acts like Jesse Harris, Horse Feathers, and more, the guys in Les Gold are set to survive COVID-19 and prepare for their sophomore EP.
