Cream with a K on the dreamy pop art affair "One More Round" sparkles and sadly shines

"you could crack a smile for me"

Cream with a K, the musical moniker of Lee Tatlock, British, Tokyo / London based DIY singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, visual artist and model, has a way with things, her words, her slightly askew, slightly hopeful gaze at the world that informs her art. When I listen to her songs I imagine Tatlock might wear rose colored glasses that might have one lens hopelessly shattered.

Her latest DIY produced track One More Round is terribly beautiful and wistful while at the same time sprinkles sad glitter about too. Her narrative is told with very pretty guitar lines, a drop dead gorgeous and heavy bass line and drone of sounds that offset Tatlock's vocal aesthetic that embraces windfalls of dream pop, twee pop and sleepy wanderlust. Within the sheer ethereal beauty here and with other of Tatlock's songs there are dark passages underneath. 'One More Round' have lines of a seemingly strained relationship, of torn illusions of love, quiet pleas of smiles and of accepting you for who you are. It is these rites of passage (we all have them) that can pull at your heart strings or even break them.

Two of Tatlock's inspirations that she has cited are Mazzy Star and Smashing Pumpkins. I can hear both in this track and in fact could actually hear Hope Sandoval singing this song and, even more so, Billy Corgan.

Of the song, Tatlock shares:

"This song was written and recorded at home. I was inspired by me watching tons of 90s teen movies during quarantine. The general theme feels a bit like a cinematic 90's acoustic ballad pop song but has a modern electronic twist. This song tells a bittersweet love story and feels like it would be played during a prom dance scene within a film like “10 Things I Hate About You” or “She’s all that”. I was also told that if Mazzy Star and Beck had babies - it would probably sound something like this song. Lol. - Cream with a K

Lovely track, produced with raw passion and an exquisite ability to know when enough is enough on the production side of things. Nuanced with so many diversions and emotional ascensions. Bravo Miss Tatlock.
