The track, No Teens, from The Slow Painters' self titled debut album, is a shoegaze-esque post punk rocker with dreamy vocal croons that are full of romance, lovely sustains and pushed ascensions. I thought of Sonic Youth a bit and of Yuck (circa Daniel Blumberg). The Oslo, Norway four piece outfit is comprised of
Andreas W. H. Lindvåg (vocals, guitar), Simen Breen (guitar, vocals), Paal Brevik Wangsness (bass) and Øyvind Bersvendsen (drums, percussion, vocals) and have been together since 2004.
Their long time coming debut follows a string of well received singles resulting in an album that rides a myriad of styles but all divergently wrought with evocative vox telling vast, captivating stories.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
The Slow Painters
«They’ve curated a part of our indie past and in the process we’ve gotten a ‘Debaser’ for the new century. Bliss».
– mp3hugger
Never has a band name been more fitting than that of The Slow Painters. 16 years after forming in Norway’s capital, the four-piece are finally releasing their self-titled debut LP on August 28th. It’s a testament to lost opportunities and outsider pop songs too good to let go.
The album follows a string of singles and stellar reviews. Egon drew comparisons as diverse as jangle pop powerhouse Flying Nun Records and Roy Orbison. What I Miss the Most was dubbed «a punk version of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah» and was recommended by the Norwegian equivalent to BBC Introducing (NRK P3 Urørt).
All singles were included in Apple Music’s best of the week playlist, to name just one. B-side Andy & The Androids saw airplay on Norwegian public radio.
The Slow Painters came of age in the dodgy end of brit pop, but have since ventured deep into The Great Indie Rock Songbook. Their ten song debut blends brit pop’s forerunners (The La’s) with noisy-yet-melodic indie rock (Hüsker Dü). It is produced and mixed by Sjur Lyseid of The Little Hands of Asphalt and mastered by George Tanderø.
Said of The Happy Murdered / About the Holidays
«Taking their queues from mid-to-late-90s emo bands like Mineral or Sunny Day Real Estate, the track features strained vocals and complex guitar arpeggios. Its the kind of track that you can lose yourself in and scream along to».
- Surviving the Golden Age on The Happy Murdered
«Mixing Pixies style vocal mania to constant jangly indie-pop references points, The Slow Painters deserve to be everyone’s new alt.pop darlings».
- Janglepophub on About the Holidays
«These singles are fast, moving, and catchy in their delivery».
– Get Some Magazine
«The Nordic four-piece have previously wowed listeners with Egon, and now they’ve proven that they have so much more to give».
- Independent Music News
«The Slow Painters are a band of the kind I’d expect to see (and would happily go out of my way to watch) at the club night shows that follow each day’s festival performances at Øyafestivalen in Oslo»
- Nordic Music Review
«The Slow Painters bring an original sound that you can’t ignore».
- Keep Walking Music on The Happy Murdered
Said of What I Miss the Most / Andy & The Androids
«They’ve curated a part of our indie past and in the process we’ve gotten a ‘Debaser’ for the new century. Bliss».
- mp3hugger on What I Miss the Most
«Twisting the parameters of noise/fuzz pop into all manner of leftfield melodic majesty, Oslo’s The Slow Painters, make jangled noise with one eye on the Hüsker Dü aesthetic».
- Janglepophub on Andy & The Androids
«It’s a real indie lovers delight»
- AAA Backstage on What I Miss the Most
«Just like their first single Egon, this one completely knocks us from our feet»
- Bands of Tomorrow
«Like a punk version of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, there’s an anxious rattle of life slipping by as old memories are saturated with a buzzsaw of guitars».
- Ohestee on What I Miss the Most
«The track captivates you so much that you become lost in its sonic soup without even realising it. [...] The Slow Painters have created something that is the perfect gateway for someone looking to delve into the shoegaze genre, as well as appealing to those who just love a good bit of indie rock».
- Xune Mag on What I Miss the Most
«If you’re looking for something mysterious and exciting, Oslo based band The Slow Painters’ ‘What I Miss the Most’ is a gem from the inside out».
- Keep Walking Music
Said of Egon:
«It is a tightly wound bit of indie music, exploring avenues of foot stomping folk music and chant worthy epics. [...] I expect to be hearing more from them in the future after my favorite single of the week».
- Austin Town Hall
«It’s jangly indie-rock with a tincture of country as they paint a picture of a pompous young man seeing himself through the self-depiction of another. Slow stutter percussion and stretched sharp notes are propelled as Lindvåg howls like flying shards of glass».
- Ohestee
«The Slow Painters offer a gentle helping of surf-rock and you can't help but feel yourself being swept along. This is such a charming track»
- Punktastic
«The first part of Egon calls to mind jangly guitar pop from the 80’s, such as the scene around Flying Nun in New Zealand – not at least because of some great, characteristic vocals from singer Andreas W. H. Lindvåg»
- Ole Johannes Åleskjær, Vårt Land (Norwegian newspaper)
«What a banger! I love it so much; I’m starting a tribute band to these lads, The Slower Painters».
- Independent Music News
«Fun and energetic indie-rock gem».
- Mystic Sons
«They don't commit too strongly to the beautifully dreamy side of things or the discordant side, and instead land in an area all their own that feels strangely familiar and leaves you feeling at home, even though you know you've never been here before».
- If It’s Too Loud...
«‘Egon’ needs to be heard a couple of times for it to make an impression. With just one it could go over your head. And it will do. Make an impression, that is».
- David Bentley, Nordic Music Review
«Outstanding» and «moving».
- Bands of Tomorrow
