fax machine and the manic art punk power pop ride on "motorbike"

"I had the strangest dream"

Listen, or rather, feel "motorbike" by Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK) based fax machine, the musical moniker of songwriter David Turnbull (Okay Champ, The Dawdler) and you might get a rather zany sense of things falling down, of either a scattered hyper assault of things while on hallucinogens or the razor sharp sniper focus of things (while on amphetamines). Um, of course, I am being cheeky here but the song does have a wonderful manic quality while sounding, yes, zany, divergently wrought and perfect for odd walking styles and dance moves. I love the sound here, which to me feels a bit like art punk power pop.

"motorbike" is from fax machine's upcoming album "Ouch!" dropping December 11 (2020). Of the track Turnbull offers:

"Motorbike is a dream about sitting in a car whilst daydreaming about buying a motorbike. In that sense it's essentially about never being satisfied and having to then take a step back from that and just laugh at it, at ourselves"

I have written about fax machine before and every time I hear what Turnbull creates my face pushes into one of surprise, smiles and one arched eyebrow.

Fax Machine lives in a wooden box filled with musical instruments. The synths are warped, the guitar strings are snapped, the piano is called ‘Angry Bruce’ and doesn't pay rent.

The resulting music is delightful, demented, funky, and more infectious than the disease in 12 Monkeys.

The debut album "soup" released in 2019 was flagged by Bandcamp as one of their essential weekly releases - https://daily.bandcamp.com/seven-essential-releases/bandcamp-essential-releases-july-12
