Celia Inside and the solid soulful sonic activism and empowerment of "Treat a Man"

"No one is safe, from fuckboys to Wall Street CEOs!"

Celia Inside’s recent single “Treat a Man” has the formula of atmospheric R&B and pop with empowering lyricism and keen awareness of how women are often treated vs how they should be. With an effortless and sassy flow, Celia tells it like it is to a solid beat from MisterrCha mixed masterfully by LangstonHues. I’ve often jokingly thought of treating men the way they treat women (catcalling, objectification, general disrespect) but I fall on the fact that it probably wouldn’t even be degrading to men. The message and concept of “Treat a Man” is powerful and hopefully inspires listeners to not put up with any bullshit. In the music scene and accompanying culture we see a lot of misogyny, as well as internalized misogyny. Disrespect for women is far too normalized and that won’t change unless we ALL come together for intersectional equal rights and respect. Celia Inside is an artist and activist out of NYC, creating soulful and pertinent music for all to enjoy. Listen to “Treat a Man” and follow Celia Inside online for her future releases, collaborations and activism.

After emerging from the Soundcloud ether with a Drake cover or two, singer-songwriter/rapper/producer Celia Inside has been steadily gaining a following with her soulful voice and hip-hop sensibility. Before that, she was rocking out with indie pop-rockers Miss Geo around Boston. All of these influences come to life in her sound, which lives somewhere between soulful r+b and the inventive, melodic hip-hop of today.

A few years have passed since the release of Celia's debut EP, TKO, a modern hip-hop experiment over boom-bap beats. After many covers and singles since then — including her biggest hit yet, 2020’s “Shawn Song” — Celia’s much anticipated second EP, Call Me, is finally upon us!
