Deniz Tek's garage punk jammer "Press On" before the “Take It To The Vertical” reissue

"take it up to the vertical..."

Radio Birdman was a phenomenon that bloomed out of the Australian punk scene in 1974, taking heed from MC5 & The Stooges to piece together their distinctly powerful sound. Formed by Deniz Tek and Rob Younger and joined by several talented musicians over the years, they garnered a cult like following for challenging the pop mainstream. People started to get tattoos of their logo (I have one too) and the mania surrounding them almost matched the mainstream which they challenged in the first place as a countercultural movement. In giving credit where credit is due, Wild Honey has decided to reissue Deniz Tek’s first solo album “Take It To The Vertical,” which features Scott Asheton of The Stooges on drums and Birdman’s Chris Masuak on keys and guitar. The original release from Polydor in 1992 is being revamped with never before seen photos, detailed liner notes and the previously unreleased track “Press On,” which showcases the undeniable style and vigor of Tek and his legendary counterparts. There are so many subgenres of punk, but this sound stems from the fruition of punk; rock n roll taken to the extreme, fast and unrelenting. Reissuing records is a gift to people who may have otherwise never heard this music, or were never able to find it on vinyl. “Take It To The Vertical” will be out on March 19th, and until then I hope you enjoy listening to “Press On.”
