The Head spin an alternative kind of mod on "Animal"

There is something about "Animal" by The Head that conjures up brothers Mike Shaw (bass, vocals) and Jack Shaw (drums) and Jacob Morrell (guitars) dressed in Nero Jackets and bell bottom pants, some adorned with pop art flowers all sporting black or two tone Beatle boots on London cobblestones singing with dark shades on. I mean, the sense here is 60's Brit chamber pop with elegant melodies before rock fully took over the orchestrated sort of Mancini swing. The track is from the bands 2020 EP "Better Good News" and other tracks like "Electric Fences" push harder sounds that made me think of an cross generational amalgam of The Smiths, The Jam and Interpol or the amazing "Paper Crown" that shimmy's in proto punk and new wave ways (I thought of Bruce Wooley and the Camera Club circa 1979).

Brothers Mike Shaw (bass, vocals) and Jack Shaw (drums) and Jacob Morrell (guitars) have been jamming together since high school, writing and performing original songs inspired by the bands they love: trippy Brits like Stone Roses, Spiritualized, Ride, The Verve and Echo and the Bunnymen, and moody Americans like The National, Scott Walker and early R.E.M.

The Head have released two records, Millipedes (2015) and Space (2017), and have headlined tours throughout the U.S. and U.K. They’ve also shared the stage with The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Lucy Dacus, The Glorious Sons and Primal Scream, to name a few. In between touring, The Head continue to record and release singles.
