"is this what the world is coming to?"
With my head still stuffed full of the shitstorm of dire fear, racism and tribalism stirred up by decades of brewing anti-Semitism and culminating in the mentally impaired, soul devoid, crazy combination of QAnon cultists popping up in all aspects of our lives and within every level of local and central government here in America it is with increased sadness and "what the fuck-ness" that I share this press notey statement from the Yorkshire's post punk pummeling Lumer:
"Another Day at the Zoo" is a five minute trip through a nation tribalized by nearly a decade of social cuts and parliamentary scandal. Barking through a wall of guitar feedback, frontman Alex Evans paints a bleak picture of post-Brexit Britain, from "xenophobia in train stations" to "nurses at the food bank”, nudging the listener “is this what the world is coming to?”
"Is this what the world is coming to?" is a good question and bear in mind that the social unrest, the divide between the power structures and the everyday man and the seemingly devolution of the collective brain power in many parts of the world is frightening. I guess drowning rats can only exist on the adrenaline of survival leaving little room for reason in their tiny brains.
"Another Day at the Zoo" is the last track from Lumer's much anticipated debut EP "Disappearing Act" and it slowly simmers in the societal rot and asking those questions. Built on a post punk twisted kind of blues punk riff, it is a screaming feral politico diatribe as voiced by Alex Evans, a spitting caustic pained power punk punch. The best punk asks hard questions while assaulting our senses and Lumer does just that, brilliantly.

With their scuzzy and feverish grunge riffs LUMER are fast becoming a manic force to be reckoned with. Recently likened to acts such as Yak, King Nun and Black Flag, LUMER have bloomed out of Hull’s thriving alternative music scene, holding the garage-punk torch aloft and lighting the way for the angry and the disenfranchised. Formed in the wintery beginnings of 2016, LUMER have develop their cryptic post-punk sound and have gone on to play high-octane shows supporting LIFE on their UK tour, Weirds and Vulgarians on their Manchester dates plus a performance at the prestigious Rough Trade Nottingham.
LUMER are Alex Evans (bass/vocals), Benjamin Jackson (Guitar), Jacob Wardle (drums) and Thom Foster (synth/guitar).
