Sea Glass and the collaborative indie pop group hug of "I Forgot It By Heart"

Every now and again I experience a piece of art that draws me back through the innocence and naivety of youth, that mindset free of any bittersweet cynism. This is the case of the song "I Forgot It By Heart" from the upcoming debut EP “Advanced Youth” by Sea Glass, the project of Brooklyn based producer and multi-instrumentalist Jake Muskat. This is not to say that the track is all happy smiles. There is a sense of longing, of wistful remembrances and the realization that time is a fleeting bauble of hopes and dreams that we never stop chasing. 

The EP is a collaborative effort with Muskat composing and producing each track and inviting in guest singers. On, "I Forgot It By Heart" he brought in his friend Castor Hess who also provided the lyrics and sweetened the emotional push with additional vocals by Misty Boyce. For me, the track feels pretty much like a lost 70's pop song. I especially love the sort of Euro pop sway, the dynamic fall aways and the lead guitar hook that is drenching in wanderlust and, in some ways, made me think of George Harrison. Hess's vocal aesthetic is endearing as is Boyce's vocal reflections. The sense of nostalgia is strong with this one and living and enduring 2020 was, in many ways, a hellish experience. Songs, like this that feel somehow real and pure and relatable feel so good and maybe are a sign of new times ahead filled with challenges, yes, but navigated with an all inclusive sense of helping one another. 

Hold hands with someone you love and listen to this song. This debut EP “Advanced Youth” by Sea Glass is scheduled to drop in June of this year (exact date yet undetermined).
