Dylan Kanner paints weird pretty pictures on "for you"

"do you scrape at the face of the mother of us all..."

When I first heard "for you" by askew artist, singer songwriter Dylan Kanner I really hated it. I know hate is a strong word so maybe not "hate" exactly. Maybe it was the string of normal words that when put all together sounded too purposefully obtuse. Sometimes I love when the artist's aesthetic over-rides the artistic narration (sort of like Wes Anderson's heavy self aware hand) and sometimes I do not. Maybe this felt too precious for me, maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed or maybe on the right side but whatever. Kanner's ability to utter what feels at times nonsensical and at other times deeply whimsical to the point of, well, deep started to break down my defenses. I especially am charmed by the backing vox, (oh my god x infinite). Will I love this tomorrow? Probably but maybe not but that is beside the point.

"for you", a song about death is different and artfully colored outside those lines.
