Blue Sails and the deep cut grooves / divergent pop world of "Unknown Royalty"

"you want to rob them blind, you're making up for lost time..."

Within two seconds of Blue Sails' indie pop vibey "Unknown Royalty" the beat staggers with rushed offbeat trap affections. It is as if Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich put their hands in a Tame Impala production pie. Moments later a kind of post rock blues vibe sparked by a scintillating lead guitar break, something in between John Mayer and Jeff Beck, happens. All the while, the lead vocal aesthetic, dancing around a funky bass and dropping easy yet alluring lyrics, is ultra smooth and passionately wrought. In some way, the thought of these disparate parts might seem like an unlikely stew of ingredients that should, at best, fill your stomach but feel bitter. Ultimately though, the opposite is true, making for a delicious, funky, divergent slice of broken pop with an unbelievably cool groove.

Yum. I feel satiated. Kudos to chefs Max and Mitch Bell.

Max and Mitch Bell, AKA Blue Sails, have travelled the world in search of new sonic experiences. They met on a hot air balloon ride in Hamburg. They challenged grandmasters in chess, ultimately recognizing a preference for the guitar. In exploring the technological hinterland, they've met with leaders of science and industry; in charting a course through the storm of the soul, mystics and yogis; all of it in an insatiable quest for the sound of what can't be said. In the end, "it's all just noise" and we're all together floating, seemingly on a private invite, in the vacuum of space.
